Premier League: 10 Managers Who Should Never Have Been Sacked

6. Carlo Ancelotti - Chelsea When Carlo Ancelotti was named Chelsea manager in 2009, he became the clubs 4th manager in 2 years. Fans and players alike hoped that his appointment would lead to more stability at the club. But that's not how things work at Chelsea. Ancelotti got off to a flying start to his Chelsea career by winning both the league and the FA Cup in his first season, the first time Chelsea had ever achieved the domestic double. Ancelotti's Chelsea side also became the first team to score more than 100 goals in a Premier League campaign, following an 8-0 mauling of Wigan on the last day of the season. Things were looking pretty damn good for the Italian heading into his second year in charge. The 2010/11 season started well for Chelsea as they won their first 5 Premier League games. However, Ancelotti failed to emulate his success from his first season and Chelsea finished in 2nd place, 9 points behind Manchester United. They also failed to win any silverware. Despite his initial success, Ancelotti was sacked at the end of the season. Many had thought that his double winning success in his first season would be enough to keep him in the job. However, he failed to achieve success in Europe, the thing Roman Abramovich most coveted. Considering the continued lack of stability at Chelsea over the last number of years, perhaps Abramovich would have been better off sticking with Ancelotti, who had both the players and the fans firmly on his side.
