Premier League 2013-14: Season Predictions

Liverpool

Season 2 of the Brendan Rodgers project and the buzzword is progression. Progression from the 8th place finish from last season. Whether that progression will take place without Luis Suarez is still in the balance, but certainly Rodgers has been active in the transfer window nevertheless. Premier League class has come in the guise of Simon Mignolet, a bright spot in a tough season for Sunderland, for £9million and Kolo Touré on a free from Manchester City providing ample cover for Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger should either be injured, or if rumours are to be believed, sold. Up front, Brendan Rodgers has put faith in youth by signing young Spanish starlets Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto and given Suarez's predicament, much may be expected of this duo. All these signings listed above are splendid acquisitions and are adding to a squad with much potential. Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge will be having their first full season at the club and judging by their opening half-season, they will add quality, flair and goals to the cause. When the business end of the season kicks in about March time, I think that Liverpool will be embroiled in a slug for 4th place between themselves, Arsenal and Spurs. If they do finish close to the points total of the 4th place team, Rodgers will see this as progression and as a sign that his methods are succeeding and slowly rubbing off on the player. But, this season, a lesser European spot is what should be achieved. Prediction: 6th
