Premier League 2018: 10 Promoted Players To Watch Next Season

9. Callum Paterson (Cardiff)

Scottish international Callum Paterson is the ultimate definition of the term 'utility player'. Having started his career as a right-back, Paterson was also employed as a striker from time to time with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, before switching into a midfield role with Cardiff last year.

Over the course of the season, Paterson appeared in various positions, including a couple of appearance as a right wing-back, right midfielder, and then central midfielder after manager Neil Warnock criticised the 23-year-old's defensive abilities.

Strong in duels and always eager to make things happen, Paterson's smart movement and direct play helped to keep Cardiff ticking in plenty of big games. His form faded a little towards the end of the season, but he still racked up some impressive statistics, scoring 10 times and making 4 more goals for his teammates.

His passing can be wildly inaccurate at times and there's definitely work to be done on certain aspects of his game, but Paterson proved himself to be one of the signings of the season last year and was Cardiff's top scorer overall. If he can channel his abilities a little more neatly, he could be key to his club's pursuit of Premier League survival.
