Premier League 2019/20: 8 Big Takeaways From Gameweek Two
7. The Race For The Golden Boot
After the first round of games, Man City forward Raheem Sterling led the way in the race for the golden boot with an impressive hat-trick at West Ham. The England international added a fourth to his tally this week, with an impressive header against Spurs.
He is, however, not alone at the top of the list anymore. Norwich City’s 30 goal star from last season, Teemu Pukki, continued his incredible goal scoring form against Newcastle. Adding to the goal he scored against Liverpool last week, the Finn bagged three against the Magpies, pulling him level with Sterling on four for the season after just two games.
Following closely behind these two is Ashley Barnes, who scored twice against Southampton in their season opener, and added a third to his tally when he scored against Arsenal just before half time. In 2019, only Sadio Mane and Aubameyang have scored more league goals than the Burnley striker.
After Barnes there are several players tied with two goals in two games – Harry Kane for Spurs, Sergio Aguero for City, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for United, Aubameyang for Arsenal, and the own goal category.
