4. Stewart Downing
Many people baulked when
Liverpool paid a reported £20 million fee to Aston Villa for England International left-winger Stewart Downing, and they proved to be right as Downing has done little of note since signing for the Merseyside team in 2011. Villa it seems were laughing all the way to the bank. In Downing's first season with the Reds he managed not a single goal and a measly two assists in his maiden season with Liverpool. The Englishman didn't fare much better this past season, he managed just three goals and six assists. Not really value for your £20 million quid. When Brendan Rodgers took over at Anfield he was open to the idea of
letting Downing go, but a mixture of no takers and Downing's reluctance to leave resulted in the wide-man staying put for the season. Expect the former Middlesbrough man to move on if the Merseysiders can convince someone to take him.
