Premier League: 8 Glaring Questions From This Season So Far
7. Who Is Actually In Charge Of Cardiff City Football Club?
Everybody knows about the goings on at Cardiff City FC these days. You would be hard pressed to find anybody that doesn't know there is something not quite right going on in the capital of Wales. Cardiff had a steady start to the season with many viewing Malky Mackay as doing a tremendous job, with a team only newly promoted to the Premier League. His sacking, in late December, came as a huge surprise to fans and fellow football managers alike and led to people thinking that one man was responsible for it all. Vincent Tan is that one man in question and there are a few reasons to believe that he wants complete control over everything that happens at Cardiff. In 2012, he made the decision to re-brand Cardiff and in effect change the identity of the footballing club. The blue shirts turned red and the club crest included a logo, to help raise the club's profile in Asia. Although this meant the club's debt would be cleared, it also felt a bit like Tan was making decisions in a non-football sense with little regard for the fans of the club. One message was clear, Tan was in charge. After watching Malky Mackay lead Cardiff to the Premier League and start a solid campaign (Cardiff were in 16th) rumours filtered through that Tan was not happy the manager was getting all of the praise for the club's success. This ended with crunch talks between the two and resulted in Mackay's sacking. After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed the new manager, even more ridiculous statements were reported from the owner. He wanted the new manager to only buy players with 13 in their date of birth because it is lucky in Malaysia. He also, allegedly, wanted to know why the goalkeeper wasn't scoring any goals. Unbelievable! For better or worse, there is only one man in charge of Cardiff. His name is Vincent Tan, and he is owner, first team coach supervisor and director of transfers.
