With a new Premier League season fast approaching, teams up and down the top flight are scouring far and wide in search of reinforcements to their ranks. This year, the transfer window will be closely earlier than usual, on 9 August, giving squads even less time to get their deals done before the first round of matches kicks off two days later.

While many scouts are sent off around Europe and South America in search of the finest talents, some clubs could benefit from looking a little closer to home. Down in the Championship, there are plenty of top quality players who might be ready to make the step up to the next level.

So far this summer, we've already seen Norwich's James Maddison make a £20 million move to Leicester after scoring 14 Championship goals last season, and another of the league's top scorers, Bobby Reid, has signed on the dotted lane with Premier League new boys Cardiff.

Several other deals have involved lower-league players moving up to top flight clubs, but there are still lots of great players left in the Championship, just waiting to be plucked up by a top side.

10. Joe Worrall (Nottingham Forest)

Despite falling down the pecking order at the end of last season, 21-year-old Joe Worrall is rated as one of the best young defenders in the Championship. Worrall broke into the Nottingham Forest first team back in the 2016-17 season and established himself as one of the side's finest players over the last twelve months, appearing 31 times in the league and scoring his first goal for the club as well.

Earning favourable comparisons with former Tottenham star and England international Michael Dawson, Worrall has been tracked by Premier League clubs including Everton and Burnley. He's got a contract with Forest until 2020 but a mid-table Premier League side could be tempted to cut that contract short with an offer this summer. Worrall would surely welcome a move and Forest seem to have prepared for his potential departure with a few defensive reinforcements added in recent weeks.

A smart passer of the ball with excellent positioning and a lot of potential, Worrall was named as the second best player with the England U20 side at the prestigious Toulon Tournament last year. He has all he needs to grow into a top tier defender and could represent a shrewd investment for a top flight side.
