Premier League Transfers: 15 Most Successful January Signings

5. Daniel Sturridge - Chelsea To Liverpool

Fee: £12 million, January 2013. Daniel Sturridge has been a great January signing, twice. Back in January 2011, Sturridge joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the season from Chelsea, and went on to score eight league goals in 11 league starts to help them finish a secure 14th in the league and seven points off the relegation zone. Then two years later he was on the move again in January, signing for Liverpool in a £12 million deal, which was undoubtedly a calculated January gamble by Brendan Rodgers. He clearly had the talent and ability but not the chance as a number nine at Chelsea that he had wanted, but at Liverpool he has got that and is flourishing. In the remainder of the 2012/13 season Sturridge scored 10 league goals in 11 league starts helping Liverpool end the season well, and crucially, he has carried that form into this season and has 10 league goals in 12 league starts so far. He also became the quickest player in Liverpool history to reach 20 goals for the club beating the records of the likes of Fowler, Owen, Rush, Torres and Suarez.
