Premier League's Most Overrated Players By Position

There's always a few that let the whole side down, and no we're not just talking about Man United.

The 2018/19 Premier League season has drawn to a close and it was one for the ages. Liverpool and Manchester City pretty much ran away with the league and you'd be hard pressed to find a player from any other side that would round out a team of the season.

So doing that kind of list wouldn't be much fun. What would be a heck of a lot more fun, not to mention controversial and rage-inducing, would be to list a combined XI made up of the most overrated players in the league.

We're talking the chaps who get plaudits from fans and or pundits, yet rarely produce performances on the pitches to warrant them, whether that's in the form of a lack of goals, assists, or just general poorness. Fair warning though, it's going to feature mostly players from the top six clubs because they tend to be the highest rated.

So buckle in, prepare to get angry, and don't forget to tell us who we got right and who we got wrong. If one of your favourite players is on this list, just remember, there's always next season for them to improve.

11. GK - Jordan Pickford - Everton

While David De Gea may be the obvious choice here for his uncharacteristically poor season, he's still the main reason United are even 6th in the table. Jordan Pickford meanwhile, gets lauded as one of the very best goalkeepers in England, yet he rarely puts up a performance between the sticks to prove it.

Pickford has made four errors leading to goals this season, one of which we'll get to, which puts him atop that particular unwanted stat list. He's prone to dropping a cross and his passing accuracy leaves a lot to be desired in comparison to league leaders Alisson and Ederson. And then there's the simple fact that he's conceded over 100 goals since joining Everton two years ago. Sure, a lot of that might come down to Everton's overall defence, but his mistakes are his alone.

Speaking of which, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention his massive blunder in the dying minutes of the Merseyside derby, in which he kept a wayward shot from Virgil Van Dijk in play and tossed it onto the head of Divock Origi. It's one thing to make such a baffling mistake, but a whole separate thing to do it in a Merseyside derby.
