A really solid first half showing from the Dutchman was ruined by a lackadaisical second. Daryl was faced with the devastating prospect of Junior Hoilett in the first period and didn't give the attacker an inch, showing that he is easily a couple of classes about the Canadian. (Not as if that's anything to write home about.) However, a number of silly mistakes crept into his game as the whole team dropped off in the second half. Along with Krul, Janmaat played his part in Rangers' first. He failed to get off the ground and provide winger Phillips with enough of a challenge to prevent a goal. Newcastle need their defenders to be putting their bodies on the line in this most desperate of situations. Still one of United's better displays on a dreadful day.
