Ranking Liverpool's Starting XI From Real Madrid Defeat
3. Simon Mignolet
It's fair to say that Mignolet has not been a success story since arriving at Anfield from Sunderland in the summer of 2013. He has lacked confidence, his decision-making has been poor and, to put it bluntly, he has just not been good enough. Not many felt he would fare much better against Madrid, but the Belgium international performed excellently. The 26-year-old was forced into two very fine early saves, denying both Cristiano Ronaldo and Rodriguez, and his self-esteem seemed to grow from that point on. He looked more commanding from crosses than he has ever done in a Liverpool shirt, and although it shouldn't necessarily be anything particularly impressive for a Premier League goalkeeper, he made no noticeable errors for once. Whether Mignolet is good enough still remains very debatable, but it was a very encouraging performance from him.
