Southampton Transfers: 10 Players To Buy This Summer
2. Lucas Ocampos
Back in the summer of 2012, newly promoted Southampton pulled off something of a coup when they picked up highly fancied young Uruguay winger Gaston Ramirez amidst the interest of many bigger clubs. Since then, the man from Fray Bentos has been a frustrating presence at St. Mary's, showing occasional flashes of brilliance alongside lengthy periods of idleness. It may be time for Saints to cut their losses on Ramirez, who is still highly regarded in Serie A where he made his name. If Saints were to sell Ramirez back to Italy, then the latest transfer rumours suggest that they have a ready made replacement in sight. Monaco's Lucas Ocampos is another highly rated promising young South American winger and, rumour has it, the promise of regular first team football in an ambitious, up and coming team could be enough to persuade Ocampos of the merits of Saints over other interested parties like Juventus. The 19 year old is a great talent and in any other country but Argentina he would already be an international player. However, big spending Monaco splashing out on Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez has left Ocampos on the sidelines too often for his liking. As mentioned above, Saints lack depth in forward areas, meaning Ocampos would have a lot to offer on the South Coast. The pacy, two footed winger would provide another attacking option, with plenty of chance to link with Schneiderlin, Lallana, and Rodriguez and ample opportunity to grow and develop as a player.
