Versatile midfielder Fredy Guarin has always impressed, whether winning multiple trophies for Porto, now as a regular for Inter, or as a fixture in the Colombian team that have had an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign. He has been a target for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea this year. In short, then, Guarin is a player who would be an asset to the Southampton side, but may appear to be a little out of their league. However, Guarin is reportedly increasingly unsettled at Inter, with the Nerazzurri looking to bring in a new striker and seeing Guarin as the ideal player for a part exchange deal to make that happen. A failed attempt at signing Juventus' Mirko Vucinic, with Guarin to move the other way, saw Inter casting their net wider and looking at Saints' troublesome Osvaldo. Guarin arriving at the St. Mary's in a deal that saw Osvaldo go the other way was rumoured during the January transfer window, before the latter's loan to Juventus. If Juve don't take up their option to buy permanently, Saints would do well to revive discussion with Inter in the hope of securing Guarin. Osvaldo's departure is inevitable, wherever he ends up, Saints just need to see if they can make the best of the deal.
