Sports Personality Of The Year 2013: Ranking The Big Contenders
4. Justin Rose
Despite being born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Justin Rose has proved to be one of the best golfers that The U.K has produced in recent years. The 33 year old moved to Hampshire when he was just five and turned pro in 1998 at the age of 18 after finishing 4th in the Open Championship as an amateur. Rose had a slow start to his career, but 2013 has without a doubt been the highlight of his career. He finished 2nd to Tiger Woods at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March to take him to a career best 3rd in the PGA world rankings. Just three months later, Rose won his maiden major in Merion, where he beat Phil Mickelson and Jason Day to win the U.S Open, the first Englishman to do so in 43 years and the first Englishman to win a major since Nick Faldo in 1996. Similar to Ian Bell, Rose could be an outsider to take further glory by winning Sports Personality of the Year, but the next three men are the ones to watch.
