Spurs: 10 Incredible Stats You Won't Believe From The AVB Era

4. Shooting Stars?

Tottenham failed to score on just five occasions under AVB this season, or to put it another way they netted in 80% of games in all competitions. That stat is belied, however, by another. Spurs currently possess the joint fourth worst goal record in the Premier League. Villas-Boas celebrated his team netting 15 times from 16 top flight matches. That average is just under a goal per game. Who is to blame for this? The head coach in Levy's opinion as he sacked him. Gareth Bale carried the team through last season, but AVB reinvested the money he got for him in several players. An attempted remodelling of parts of Spurs's spine was also part of the summer spending. When you look at how Hotspur have got on in front of goal in all competitions, the picture is slightly better mind. They have scored 44 in 26 games, which works out about a goal and two-thirds per match. Is this because they played lesser opposition in cup competitions, albeit in unaccustomed climates when it came to Europa League away games? Villas-Boas did seem prepared to let Tottenham be more expressive on Thursday nights than he otherwise would.
