Spurs: 10 Players Who Should Never Have Worn White

6. Gilberto da Silva Melo

Brazil Signing a Brazilian international is a sure-fire good move, right? Wrong. After seeing his namesake, Gilberto Silva, perform so well at rivals Arsenal for a number of successful years, Juande Ramos decided to bring in this supposedly accomplished thirty-something left back from Hertha Berlin. Gilberto had several full Brazil caps to his name and had done well in Germany, having previously played for a number of Brazil's top club teams and, albeit briefly, for Inter Milan in Italy. In his debut for Spurs against PSV Eindhoven, Gilberto was at fault for the only goal of the game and was replaced at half time. This was a sign of things to come as the defender's hapless performances were barely worthy of Sunday league football. He moved back to Brazil a year and a half after signing, having barely played for Spurs, where he remained. He is currently 36 years old and plays for América Futebol Clube.
