Spurs: 10 Players You Didn't Know Tottenham Almost Signed

2. Eden Hazard

Media Image LtdMedia Image LtdIn the 2011/12 season, when Spurs finished fourth, Belgian star Eden Hazard was on the brink of signing for them. When Spurs started talking to the then-Lille man, they were actually third in the league, and the looming Champions League qualification that would have come with finishing in third position was enough for Hazard to want to sign for the club. Spurs actually ended up finishing the season in fourth - a position which would usually guarantee a Champions League place for a Premier League team - but Chelsea went on to win the Champions League. Despite the fact that they finished below Spurs that season, in fifth position, their European triumph meant that they took Spurs' place in the competition the following season. Hazard explains it by saying "it's true that Tottenham tempted me, because it was a young team which was third in the league. Unfortunately, the end of the season did not go well. They did not reach the Champions League, which tipped the balance." The rest, as they say, is history.
