Spurs 2-0 Norwich - AVB Lauds Eriksen And Sigurdsson After Victory

Andre Villas-Boas was quick to sing the praises of debutant Christian Eriksen and goalscorer Gylfi Sigurdsson after Tottenham beat Norwich at White Hart Lane. Eriksen made a first start for Spurs, playing in the No.10 role and was integral to the Lilywhites attacking play - he picked up an assist for the first goal, linked up the play and left the field to a standing ovation. Villas-Boas said:

"Great debut for Christian. For a player of his age he has all this experience of playing and moving between the lines, and his movement was fantastic. He is a pure no.10, a creative player, and he came into the game and bonded very, very easily. "The natural tendency of players with this type of individual quality, as we have seen with all of our signings this summer, they are able to jump into the team straight away. With performances and results like this we will bond as a team even more."

Sigurdsson was a somewhat surprise inclusion in the starting line-up but he repaid his manager's faith with both goals and a man of-the-match performance that left Villas Boas singing his praises:

"I was very pleased - he came back from international duty with a dead leg, was struggling, but we spoke during the week. We needed him and he made himself available for the team. Sigurdsson is a player that whenever he has these opportunities he makes the most of them." "He always comes in with a great attitude and I think it was a man of the match performance."

The result takes Tottenham up to second in the table, one place below North London rivals Arsenal but ahead of third-placed Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Photos to follow.
