Spurs 2-1 Sheriff Tiraspol - Player Ratings

Gylfi Sigurdsson: Always looked to cut inside from left wing berth and thus provided no width. Attempts to link with Defoe failed despite best endeavour. Swapped over with Lamela before half time, but a similar story for Iceland international. Needs to do better for his country if they are to upset Croatia in World Cup playoffs. Subbed. 5/10. Jermain Defoe: Fed off scraps all night and yet still found the net from the spot. Only had a sniff from a Sigurdsson centre, but could not get any contact on it. Prolific in Europe with seven goals in five matches now and deservedly the club's record scorer in continental competitions. 6/10. Subs: Paulinho: Showed his usual box-to-box presence in half an hour off the bench. Blazed a shot over after getting the ball back from Eriksen. Tried an audacious overhead when Sheriff defence only a deflected Walker centre to him. A definite must have for Brazil come the World Cup. 6/10. Harry Kane: Youngster got 20 minutes, but did little. Expecting him to serve merely as backup for the England Under-21s behind the likes of in-form Danny Ings and Saido Berahino. 5/10. Lewis Holtby: Drew two saves in quick succession from Tomic at close range late on after coming on with ten minutes left. Neither him nor Eriksen has made the position in the hole their own yet. 5.5/10. Who was your man of the match? Have your say below.
