Spurs Fans' 10 Most Hated Players Of The Modern Era
5. David Bentley
We've written about David Bentley a lot lately here at WhatCulture.com and it's no secret that his time at Spurs was a massive disappointment. Poor performances are one thing - they often can't be helped and are forgiveable - but a failure to acknowledge said poor performances, and thinking that you're better than you actually are, are traits that attract animosity and that's why Bentley is disliked by Spurs fans. A £15 million fee was paid to acquire Bentley's services in 2008 and a lot was expected of him. However, he failed to deliver emphatically - and even a spectacular 45 yard volleyed goal against Arsenal wasn't enough to change that. He always had a high opinion of himself, however, and his application in training was said to be questionable. Upon ultimately leaving the club in 2013, Bentley went on to retire a year later - but he still didn't admit that it was down to the fact that nobody wanted him. Bentley blamed the modern game of football itself in what felt like something of a swipe at Spurs. All in all, his poor performances, his poor attitude and the fact that he was a complete waste of £15 million of Spurs' money mean that he isn't widely liked at White Hart Lane.
