Spurs Transfer News: Gareth Bale To Join Real Madrid Today?

today after Tottenham's technical director Franco Baldini flew to Spain to finalise a deal, according to the Independent. The deal for the 24-year-old stalled in recent weeks over complications as to how Real would pay the fee, but one of this summer's most protracted transfer sagas could be over before the weekend. Real are set to break the world transfer record they themselves set in 2009 after paying £80 million to land Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. And the Spanish giant's official website have even started selling No.11 shirt with Bale's name on the back. That's a sign of just how convinced Real are that the Welshman's move is imminent while Tottenham would have liked to have sold sooner to provide more time to reinvest the fee. They are looking into signing Roma forward Erik Lamela, while his teammate Miralem Pjani‡ is also on their radar after a move to sign Willian was hijacked by Chelsea. Spurs have already spent £60 million on improving their squad this summer by bringing in Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue. The north London club have broken their transfer record twice by reinvesting the huge swathes of cash they are about to receive for Bale.
