Spurs Transfers: 11 Signings Mauricio Pochettino Must Make Immediately

11. Leandro Damiao

Current Club: Santos Spurs simply haven't scored enough goals this season and wholesale changes are needed up front if they are to make a push for the top four next season. A measly return of 55 Premier League goals (compared to, say, the 102 scored by Manchester City or the 101 scored by Liverpool) saw the club end the season with a goal difference of +4 - a truly terrible differential for a team as high as 6th in the table. With that in mind, a bid for long-term target Leandro Damiao could be on the cards. What makes this potential bid more likely is the fact that Pochettino tracked Damiao during his time at Southampton. The Brazilian striker turned the Saints down, citing their lack of ambition as the reason behind the snub, but Spurs' Champions League aspirations could be all the ambition he needs to finally make his overdue move to the Premier League. In Spurs' previous pursuit of Damiao, he was playing for their affiliate club Internacional. He has since moved to Santos, where he scored 5 goals in 13 games in their runner-up campaign - though his performances were criticised. He could well be looking to get out of Santos quickly, given that the move hasn't gone to plan, and finally heading to England could be the way to go about it.
