4. Manchester United
If Gareth Bale stays in England, then the most likely direction he will go will be north. Manchester United and their local rivals City (more on them in a moment) look set to tussle for the English crown for the foreseeable future. Although it hasn't been in the Sir Alex Ferguson blueprint of recent years to rely heavily on marquee signings, this season will certainly have shown him never to rule it out (I am of course referring to his capture of Robin Van Persie). As mentioned earlier, the transfer talk at Old Trafford seems like it will centre around Ronaldo. If that doesn't materialise, then the next best thing is arguably Bale. The Welshman famously turned United down to go to Tottenham from Southampton; was that because United don't interest him, or because he felt he wasn't yet ready? Whatever his reasons, you would imagine if Sir Alex Ferguson discovers he can bring Bale to Old Trafford then, much like Van Persie, he will do it. It may take a signing of Bale's standard to ensure United are so far ahead of City in the league again this time next year.
