Spurs Transfers: Southampton Bid £15m For Andros Townsend

Saints make third bid for England midfielder.

David Craig loves doing other people's jobs on transfer deadline day. Robbed of too much to do at Newcastle United's training ground, the Sky Sports journalist has just confirmed that he's taken a call confirming that Southampton have made a fresh, improved bid for Tottenham's England winger Andros Townsend. That deal would be worth £15m to Spurs, who have previously stated that they are not keen to let Townsend leave. There was some suggestion that the clubs might work together on a swap deal to take Jay Rodriguez to Spurs with Townsend heading to the south coast in return, but that was rubbished by Sky Sports earlier. It now remains to be seen whether Pochettino would be happy to sell at that price: the manager has made no attempt to hide the fact that there is a lot of dead wood at the club, and deals that would see Aaron Lennon and Sandro join QPR could be in the offing. Having seen a resurgence in the ability of Erik Lamela, and Nacer Chadli impressing, Townsend might see his future better catered for away from White Hart Lane. Should Spurs cash in on Townsend?
