Spurs Transfers: Is Yedlin Good Enough For Tottenham?

Something is not completely right with Pochettino's summer transfer policy.

Spurs are continuing to add new players to their squad this summer as American full-back DeAndre Yedlin is on the brink of signing at White Hart Lane. The 21-year-old has travelled to London after impressing new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and will complete a permanent move. And while he's a prospect, having played for the USA in Brazil and impressing for Seattle Sounders - enough to earn a £2.5m move - it seems that Spurs might be taking the lessons of last summer on board a little too much. If you compare Spurs' spending to Liverpool's, both last summer and this, you have to wonder if the Spurs board are taking the wrong things from their failure to smartly invest the Gareth Bale money. Liverpool have correctly identified that all prospects need to be weighed up with experienced players and ones who can have instant impacts. Spurs meanwhile still seem imbalanced in their focus: Yedlin, along with Ben Davies and Eric Dier might be good prospects, but they're untested in the long term. They're not likely to make a big impact immediately - though Davies might start in the first-team - and the signing of Michel Vorm again seems like consolidation rather than growth. Spurs had an opportunity this summer under Pochettino to add proven quality that would change what happened last season, and while there is undoubtedly faith in the new manager - enough to suggest that he can turn the same group of players into contenders - there should have been more done to help him in the market. Meanwhile Spurs could be close to getting rid of expensive flop Roberto Soldado, though not on the permanent deal they would prefer, as Atletico Madrid are looking to take the striker on loan for the season. Despite winning La Liga, Atletico aren't in a position to buy Soldado, who cost a monumental £26m last summer, but Marca say that coach Diego Simeone wants to bring him in alongside other loans to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. Soldado would apparently welcome a return to Spain, where he was a lot more successful than his 6 goal haul at Tottenham. Are you happy with the business Tottenham have done so far this summer?
