Stoke City Transfer News: Lee Cattermole Set To Stay At Sunderland

Lee Cattermole appears to be staying at Sunderland despite a pursuit by Stoke City after negotiations broke down. The Potters were believed to have improved their offer to £5 million for the combative midfielder after an earlier bid was rejected. Yet according to Sky Sports News, Stoke's hopes have now been dashed €“ Cattermole is likely to stay on Wearside after reports that negotiations have broken down. The midfielder was believed to be on his way after Mackems boss Gus Poyet signed his former Brighton charge Liam Bridcutt for £2.5 million earlier this week. And that move piqued the interest of Potters boss Mark Hughes, who pursued the midfielder in an attempt to bolster his midfield. However, it now appears Sunderland's management want him to stay and fight for his place, meaning the Welsh manager will need look elsewhere for a player to help kick-start a run to the top half. Sunderland were reported to be interested in Stoke's American right-back Geoff Cameron, although Stoke-based paper The Sentinel reported that the two potential transfers aren't linked.
