According to Sky Sports' Pete O'Rourke, Fulham have made a bid to sign Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley, who will become a free agent in the summer. Despite being apparently frozen out by former manager Paolo DiCanio, Bardsley has played a major role in his side's resurgent form, and helped the side to the League Cup final after scoring a fortuitous goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford. According to O'Rourke, the 28-year-old Scotland defender could be set to move south before the month is out, which seemingly corroborates stories that have appeared in a number of media outlets earlier today, including the Sunday People. Those reports have the Fulham bid set at £1million, but say that the Cottagers are fresh out of luck, as Gus Poyet wants to keep his full-back. Alan Oliver at the People stated that Bardsley is aware of the interest, but that he wants to stay in the North East, with the promise of a new contract in June (likely depending on what division the side end up in next year.)
