Sunderland Transfers: 10 Players Sam Allardyce Must Sign
8. Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur)
You may think it's lazy just throwing Andros Townsend's name into the mix as he has been linked with a Sunderland move for several transfer windows. For the record, I don't think he's a world-beating, top quality winger, and his talent isn't worth the whopping £14 million price tag slapped on his head by Spurs' chairman/transfer super villain, Daniel Levy. Why does he make this list then? Well, let's consider the wide options for Sunderland. Duncan Watmore is a raw product and while his future is bright, we can't expect too much, too soon. Then there's the likes of Fabio Borini, more of an inside forward than traditional winger, and Jeremain Lens who would rather be anywhere else on the planet than the Stadium of Light at the minute. Then there's Adam Johnson, whose court case in February will likely sideline him during proceedings, regardless of the verdict. If Sunderland find a buyer for Lens at roughly the same fee they paid for him, reinvesting in Townsend may not be a bad idea, especially in the year before the Premier League's TV deal bloats to unprecedented levels.
