One of the unlikeliest heroes of Liverpool's magnificent 2013/14 campaign, young full back Jon Flanagan saw this season cut brutally short by two surgeries on his knee. He has signed a new contract while completing his rehabilitation, and is projected to return to fitness sometime towards the end of 2015. Although obviously a risk due to such injury woes, he would be a worthwhile venture for Sunderland if the 2015/16 season doesn't begin in the greatest manner. Potentially an available loan signing, Flanagan boasts speed, strength and tenacity, even drawing praise from legendary Brazilian right back Cafu. Capable of adequately playing both full back positions, he would be a versatile and gritty addition to a Sunderland defence capable of collapse.
