Sunderland Transfers: 11 Players They Must Sign This Summer
11. Michael Dawson - Hull
A rather uninspiring choice to start off, but probably a sensible one. Sure, Michael Dawson was part of a relegated backline, but Sunderland's own defenders often seemed a lot more leaky than those of the teams to finish below them. Dawson would be a slightly younger upgrade over the rapidly-deteriorating Wes Brown (a player who looks unlikely to be offered a new contract this summer), and arguably even over John O'Shea, who has been guilty of numerous catastrophic lapses in concentration over the course of the season. The Hull skipper also has considerable experience higher up the Premier League, making over 200 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.
