The 5 Greatest Golf Shots Of All Time
This is what we feel are the 5 greatest golf shots of all time.
There often comes a time in many sports when comparisons are drawn, debates are made and arguments are created. Whether we are discussing who the best ever boxer was, the greatest tennis player of all time, we all have our own opinions. Some of these opinions are backed up with statistics and figures whilst others are simply judging a sportsman on pure ability rather than on any particular achievements. What we are going to try and answer today is what are the greatest golf shots of all time? That is why what we are going to discuss here may not totally agree with many others opinions, however this is what we feel are the 5 greatest golf shots of all time.
5. YE Yangs Stunning Approach Shot On The 18th Hole In The 2009 PGA Championship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I018jA-OEys A great golf shot should never just be judged on the shot itself. There are pressures outside of the actual shot, there is the timing and there is the reward. Yang was trying to fend off a certain Tiger Woods, was stuck amongst trees, had a tiny little landing zone to aim for, was on the 18th hole and was attempting to become the first ever Asian winner of a major championship. Well, he made the shot and almost put it in the hole. He then made the follow up put to take the championship. Being under all that pressure is what made the shot what it is. 4. Phil Mickelson Shooting Out Of the Straw On The 13th Hole In The 2010 Masters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh1ZVLuZdvE This is exactly what Phil Mickelson is all about and it is why he is so popular. He has never been one for the percentage shots, he plays the game how he wants to. In this shot he totally ignores his caddies advice to lay it short of the river. Stuck in the straw with a tree in close proximity he knew there was a gap, and he knew he could make it. He sure did too, within 6 feet to the flag, the crowd roared. The irony of this shot though was the fact he missed the put, so in all honestly he would have got the same score if he did follow his caddies advice. 3. Graeme McDowell And That Infamous Albatrous On The 17th Hole At Valderrama 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVqLzFNCtL8 This is not an easy hole, so for anyone to make an Albatrous is sensational. Not only that but it brings him a tie of the lead. If this shot is just 5 yards off in either directionhe is toast. Too short and he is in the water, too long and he is in the bunker. The ball is struck beautifully, he gets a perfect bounce, it rolls up the green and into the cup off the pin. Absolutely stunning! 2. Tiger Woods Holes A Chip Shot In The 16th Hole At The 2005 Masters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDCGGMv50EQ No top 5 would be complete with at least one Tiger Woods shot would it? This is known as one of the greatest shots of all time due to the extreme accuracy, you literally have to see it to believe it. Even hes sponsors use this golfing shot in their adverts. He could have opted to leave it short, however he made the shot, and the silence of the crowd as it seemed to take an eternity to fall down the whole, suddenly turned into rapturous applause. 1. Shaun Michael And His Approach Shot At the 18th In The 2003 PGA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXmdmBViOi8 This is our personal favorite, more because of the immense pressure the player was under at the time. To pull off a shot such as this when dealing with heavy championship pressures is a magnificent achievement. To make that shot and leave it just a couple of inches from the cup has to be known as the greatest shot of all time. Any aspiring golfer can only dream of making shots such as the ones above, however anything is possible. This article was provided by Direct Golf UK.
