West Brom have contacted former Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis about their vacant manager's position after sacking Alan Irvine last night. Pulis, 56, has been out of work since quitting Crystal Palace just days before the start of this season following a row with Eagles Chairman Steve Parish. The Welshman's stock is high after working miracles at Selhurst Park last season. Palace were in a much more perilous position than the Baggies are at the moment having amassed seven points from their first 12 Premier League games. Pulis was appointed in November following a 1-0 win away at Hull City and led the then newly promoted side to a storming second half to the season, finishing 11th, 12 points above the drop zone. Former Everton Assistant Manager Irvine was relieved of his duties late last night following the weekend's 2-0 defeat away at Stoke City. The defeat sees West Brom occupy 16th position in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone with seven defeats in their last nine games. Their only success during that run was the 1-0 derby win over Aston Villa. Pulis, who has also been heavily linked with the Newcastle United job, is set for a baptism of fire at The Hawthorns as West Brom travel to West Ham on New Year's Day before a potential banana skin at Gateshead in the FA Cup and a relegation six-pointer at home to Hull City.
