10 Opponents Carl Froch Could Face Next

Whether it takes place in Vegas, or on British shores, Froch’s next fight should be against one of these hopefuls...

Carl Froch silenced all his doubters when he dispatched George Groves via knockout at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening. The WBA and IBF super middleweight champion made sure there was no controversy in the rematch between the two men as he knocked out the Londoner in the eighth round of their bout in the capital. The stunning victory leaves the world at the feet of the Cobra once again. At 36-year-old he only has a handful of fights left in him and he will only want to agree to the very biggest available. There will be plenty of fighters wanting a shot at the veteran champion, but he has put himself in a great position to be able to choose his next opponent. Froch has made no secret of the fact that he wants to headline a show in Las Vegas before he calls time on his career. This will almost certainly mean that he will have to face a fighter from that side of the Atlantic Ocean to achieve that goal. There are plenty out there in the super middleweight class, and even the divisions either side of it, from which a challenger could emerge. Whether it takes place in Vegas, or on British shores, Froch€™s next fight will be another huge event. Here are 10 men that WhatCulture see as possible opponents for the Cobra in the coming months.

10. Mikkel Kessler

Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler have met twice before with each man claiming a victory over the other. This would suggest that a decider should be on the cards, but only one of the two men would be really keen for that to come about. Kessler handed the Englishman his first ever career defeat in 2010 when he claimed a unanimous decision win in Denmark back in 2010. All three judges may have given the fight to the Viking Warrior, but it was certainly close, and there had been a feeling that if the bout had taken place in England, the result would have been different. Three years later, they did meet in England and it was Froch picking up the unanimous decision this time around. The Cobra dominated the contest and there was no question who the winner was this time around. Whilst Froch has fought, and won, twice since then, Kessler has not stepped into the ring. His career has stalled and many though he would retire, but he has recently decided to fight on. Another chance at fighting Froch would be excellent for the Dane€™s career, but it would not really be a step in the right direction for the Englishman. Carl will see that chapter of his career as over and a third fight would not do nearly as much business as a bout against other leading contenders. Kessler may do his best to convince his old rival to go at it again, but in truth, there will not be much interest from Froch or the British public in seeing it again.
