6. Hatem Ben Arfa
Position: Attacking Midfield Club: Newcastle United Probable Value: £18m Thanks to his legendarily questionable temperament and a sickening injury at the hands of Man City bruiser Nigel De Jong, Newcastle managed to pick up skillful attacking midfielder Ben Arfa from Marseille for a ridiculously low price, and enjoyed some spectacular returns on their investment in an excellent season. Ben Arfa is a rare commodity these days, possessing a hatful of tricks and willing to run at defenders with devastating effect in some cases and if Gareth Bale does leave Spurs for a Champions League club, the attacking midfield vacancy could easily be filled by the little wizard. He wouldn't come cheap, but a strong performance by Ben Arfa often means the difference to his team, and the simple fact is that you can't often buy his kind of quality for less than £20m. One more good season at Newcastle United, and we might be talking even more, so anyone looking to take his prodigious talent on better move quickly.
7. Yohan Cabaye
Position: Central Midfield Club: Newcastle United Probable Value: £25m The chances of this one are probably slim, given how much of a difficult seller Mike Ashley is (by that I mean the kind of money it takes for him to part with his prized assets) and how highly the hard-working, classy central midfielder is valued at St James Park. But £25m or so would buy a player with an exquisite eye for a pass, and masses of technical ability who drives the engine of the French national team, changing phases of midfield play into attacks with a wave of his wand-like foot. Cabaye was arguably the signing of last season, integrating into a rebuilt Newcastle team with ease and playing in every game he was available to take part in, and if the tabloids are to be expected, some so-called bigger boys will be sniffing around him after just one season at St James Park. After that season, and with the right experience under his belt, Cabaye will be an even more valuable asset (hence the price) and anyone who can prize him away from Newcastle, and the Geordie fans who took him to heart immediately will have an invaluable player on their hands. So, Spurs fans - what do you think? Have we missed any French players in and around the national team that you would like to see at White Hart Lane if Blanc does agree to take the reins?
