Tottenham Transfer News: Hugo Lloris Bid Rejected
Tottenham Hotspur have had an undisclosed transfer bid for Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris rejected.
The Sun. Current number one Brad Friedel turned 41 in May, and with the veteran shot-stopper nearing the end of his illustrious playing career, new manager Andre Villas-Boas had deemed the Frenchman as the ideal long term replacement for the American. Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told the Sun:
Hugo wants to play in one of the best clubs in Europe. This year there was an approach from Tottenham that was quickly rejected. If he absolutely wants to leave, we will look at the proposals but they must be consistent with what we want. "If not, he will stay. The 25 year old goalkeeper has already captained his national side, in France's 2-1 victory over England at Wembley, and has represented his country at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level. He has made 37 International appearances as of 2008, keeping eighteen clean sheets. Though he has failed to claim domestic glory with Lyon thus far, he has won the Coupe de France - France's premier knock-out cup competition - as well as the Trophée des champions, France's equivalent of the Community Shield, making him one of the most sought after young goalkeepers in world football. If Spurs end up selling Luka Modric to Spanish giants Real Madrid, they may have some extra funds freed up to come in with a fresh offer for the goalkeeper.
