Tottenham Transfer News: Luka Modric Snubs Real Madrid

Luka Modric looks set to stay at White Hart Lane after Real Madrid reportedly cooled their interest in the Croatian midfielder.

Unsettled Spurs star Luka Modric looks set to stay at White Hart Lane after Real Madrid reportedly cooled their interest in the Croatian midfielder. The Croatian playmaker had looked set for a £35 million move to the Santiago Bernabéu, having apparently rejected overtures from Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain. However Modric, who has made 159 appearances at White Hart Lane since joining from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008, is reportedly growing frustrated with Real Madrid's hesitance to get the deal done. He has now given the Spanish giants until July 17th to make their move, or pull the plug. It is understood that Real Madrid must first raise the funds needed to land Modric, who is under contract with Spurs until 2016. Another option is offering Tottenham a player exchange, with Sami Khedira or Mesut –zil potentially heading the other way. It remains to be seen how Real Madrid will react to this ultimatum, and new manager Andre Villas Boas will be more than keen to keep hold of his star midfielder, hoping to make a good first impression this season after his tumultuous tenure at Stamford Bridge. The news may also alert his former club, after they made repeated offers to sign the star in 2011, only for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to insist he was "not for sale at any price" and rejected a massive £30million offer. Sir Alex Ferguson may also have rekindled his interest, having also been previously rebuffed in his pursuits. Having missed out on Eden Hazard, Ferguson is understood to be wanting to make at least one big purchase this summer to add more steel to his title-chasing side. source - the sun
