Tottenham vs Newcastle: 5 Key Battles To Decide The Game

4. Clint Dempsey vs Fabricio Coloccini

If as expected in some quarters Emmanuel Adebayor fails to make the starting line-up after his delayed return from the African Cup Of Nations, the American will likely lead the Spurs line against Newcastle's back-line, and though Steven taylor has been instrumental in the past two games for the Toon, it will be the Argentine captain who most focus falls on. He may have wanted out in the winter window, but Coloccini is still a colossus when on form, and he has shown against Villa and Chelsea that he is able to deal with physical defenders like Christian Benteke and Demba Ba with ease (as Ba's nose will testify). Dempsey offers something different, and the American was key to Fulham's destruction of Newcastle last season with his movement and vision. He was deeper lying in that game, and might find more success playing in a similar position against Newcastle, especially if Adebayor comes on at some point to partner him.
