Sonnen had lost to Anderson Silva and Jon Jones in definitive fashion. He was in a must-win situation against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to in order to prove that he's still a worthy headliner. He did just that by choking Rua out with a guillotine in the first round. With that victory, his stock was back up and people were thrilled to hear him speak. That led him to calling out Wanderlei Silva to the crowd's joy. The infamous line of him stating Silva's height and weight, followed by "not knowing they can stack crap that high" was brilliant. He followed that up by challenging Silva to a fight at UFC 167, which was the official reintroduction to a long bitter feud. Silva didn't take the fight, due to being injured from training. It did however invigorate the feud between them, which was essential for people to start having interest again. For the first event on the Fox Sports 1 network, Sonnen's callout and quote would be talked about for weeks to come.
