9. The Continuous Struggle For Rory MacDonald Towards Living Up To The Hype
It's not difficult to be turned off by Rory MacDonald's demeanor. Many fans can get turned off by someone, who is quiet, arrogant, yet receives countless praise. That praise comes from his relationship with Georges St. Pierre, which has both benefited and damaged his career. On one occasion, he gets catapulted into a potential number one contender's fight against Jake Ellenberger. Then the next moment, people are calling him overrated in losing to Robbie Lawler. MacDonald has been constantly linked with St. Pierre, which has given the impression that he should be a sure fire contender. Now that he has shown some vulnerability in his past two fights, people aren't exactly embracing him as a future number one contender. The added pressure will be fighting in his hometown for the first time since his controversial loss to Carlos Condit. While he's improved leaps and bounds since that fight, the pressure still continues to accumulate. St. Pierre has taken a sabbatical at the moment, which has left MacDonald as the man to bring back the welterweight title back to Canada. In a fight against the ultra-explosive Tyron Woodley, his work is cut out for him. Woodley closes the distance like no other welterweight. His massive size and blistering speed is going to cause MacDonald to rely on his jab once again. If he can utilize that and wear Woodley out, we should see people start believing "the hype" once again.
