UFC 174 Results: 10 Things We Learned

2. Women's MMA Is Here To Stay

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeWlnRQ23Ds What do you usually expect out of two no-name fighters showing up on a UFC preliminary card? Two fighters stepping into the cage for the first time, who haven't even fought in a major organization before? You generally expect to be able to take a bathroom break. Unless the fighters in question are female. Whether they feel they have to work harder to prove themselves, or there's just more untapped talent out there than on the much more exposed men's side of the fight game, female MMA bouts continue to steal the show. Valerie Letourneau and Elizabeth Phillips elevated the preliminary card of UFC 174 last night from "just sort of okay" to "solidly entertaining" all by themselves. Doing it in what was the first bout in the UFC for both of them is nothing short of outstanding. With the strawweight division coming in, Women's MMA is here to stay, and fights like this are why. The girls always steal the show!
