1. Rory MacDonald Is Still Heir Apparent To GSP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGrCDoCe4P0 My apologies to Big Rigg, but I'm just not sold on Johnny Hendricks as champ. Yes, the GSP fight was close - but he did lose. It's the point system more than anything that cost him the fight, but that's the sport as it stands. On top of that, he didn't look great versus Carlos Condit prior to being champ. Robbie Lawler really pushed him. He's been gifted a few decisions of his own. He's got crazy knockout power, but I just don't see him being the long-running Champion that GSP was. I don't think Rory MacDonald will be either, not in terms of winning streak, but I think he's got a great shot at holding the belt, if he continues to show up the way he did last night against Tyron Woodley. A week ago, everyone was talking about Woodley, as MacDonald had lost to Robbie Lawler, and had some dull outings against Jake Ellenberger and Damian Maia, before and after the Lawler fight, respectively. Then the old Rory Mac showed up. Ares dominated Woodley, who was looking primed for a title shot of his own. He put on a total clinic. If that MacDonald continues to be the one that turns up in the cage, he can and should hold a belt some day. He's got the creepy, disaffected sociopath look and talk down outside of the ring. Now he just needs to consistently be a killer within it.
