7. Matt Mitrione's Quest For Consistency
Isaac Brekken/AP/Press Association ImagesThe Ultimate Fighter Season 10 will always be remembered as the most memorable season of all-time. It was highlighted by the memorable Rashad Evans-Rampage Jackson feud, along with internet sensation Kimbo Slice being on the show. One side note to that season was Matt Mitrione's antics. His
memorable argument with Evans to
Marcus Jones flipping out in his face were some notable highlights to a frantic season. Mitrione has now become an established heavyweight in the UFC. He's become inconsistent though, due to facing better competition and starting off slow in certain fights. Mitrione is one of the most athletic heavyweights in the division, along with being very well-rounded on the feet. His leg kicks have proven to take a toll on his opponents. His striking has really evolved from training with the Blackzilians. What he hasn't developed is being able to get off his back. Cheick Kongo held him down for a good portion of the third round in their fight, which led to Kongo earning the decision victory. Brendan Schaub submitted him with relative ease by using a D'Arce choke. Stefan Struve is one of the most dangerous heavyweights on the ground. While he likes to keep the fight standing, Struve showed in his victories over Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson that he has no problem in either pulling guard or going for a leg sweep to take his opponent down. Mitrione needs to make sure that he's comfortable on his back in order to be fully prepared against someone like Struve.
