7. World Series Of Fighting Debut: WSOF 1 - Arlovski vs. Cole
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhliYYIOsPc The World Series of Fighting recently announced an extended deal with NBC television, continuing its broadcasts on NBC Sports as well as landing a couple of shows on the main NBC network. It's solidly entrenched as the number three promotion in the MMA world at the moment, and has been home to the likes of recent UFC returnee Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, former UFC stars Jon Fitch, Yushin Okami, Jake Shields, and Melvin Guillard, and upcoming stars such as Nick Newell and Marlon Moraes. Oh, and they probably have the best female bantamweight outside of the UFC in Jessica Aguilar. Frankly, they're neck and neck talent wise with Bellator. And they have Andrei Arlovski to thank for a large part of that success, at least in the early going. Early on, it was the Arlovski name that drew eyeballs to WSOF. He headlined their first card against Devin Cole, a Strikeforce, WEC, and Shark Fights vet, and finished Cole within the first round by TKO. For that show, the company essentially bought their way onto NBC Sports, though the fight aired online, and on the Fight Network in Canada as well. It marked Arlovski's best - and most watched - match up to that point on his come back trail, and as much as Arlovski helped the WSOF, the exposure he gained under the fledgling promotion would help him in turn. Suddenly, people were talking about the Pit Bull again. People were taking him more seriously. He would headline twice more for the promotion, losing a unanimous decision against Anthony Johnson in a fight that left him with a broken jaw, then returning to defeat Mike Kyle en route to returning to the big show with the UFC.
