US Open Preview: 5 Players To Watch Out For

2. Sabine Lisicki

Sabine Lisicki 3 It was a tough decision to choose the second women for the list. The young US star Sloane Stephens was a clear alternative. Sabine makes the list however due to her amazing performance at Wimbledon this year, reaching the final by overpowering some of the best in the world. Her Wimbledon plight may have ended in a disappointing final, but the impressive run saw no.1 ranked Serena Williams and no.4 ranked Agnieszka Radwanska fall victim to Lisicki€™s brilliant efforts. Like Laura Robson, Lisicki has yet to reach her peak. At only 23 her ranking of 18th is impressive and, barring injury, should continue to increase. Her game has been compared to tennis legend Steffi Graf, playing with great force and aggressiveness. Her imposing game was certainly just that at Wimbledon, dominating Williams; a rare role reversal for the US number one. Despite injury following Wimbledon Lisicki recently secured an easy opening win at the New Haven open, proving that her form has returned. With the obvious talent the young German possesses, mixed with an increasing confidence, she should perform well at the 2013 US open.
