West Brom Agree Fee For Liam Ridgewell

Birmingham City centre-half set to swap midlands allegiance to join rivals West Brom for £2m

Birmingham City centre-half Liam Ridgewell, who was supposedly set to join Newcastle United at the very end of the last transfer window is now set to sign for city rivals West Bromwich Albion, after Chris Hughton's club accepted a near £2m bid for his services. Ridgewell is now in the process of sorting out his personal terms at the Albion training ground to push through the deal before the transfer window closes tonight at 11pm. Roy Hodgson looks set to land his man, having had an initial bid rejected for the former Aston Villa player and suggesting that the deal might be dead in the water, but improved terms saw a second bid accepted. Ridgewell joined Birmingham almost five years ago in another second city move from Aston Villa, in a move to gain regular football after being largely overlooked at Villa and was part of the Carling Cup winning team last year. The defender handed in a transfer request back in August after that interest from Newcastle appeared, after confirmation that he wanted to continue playing at Premirship level when Birmingham were relegated.
