West Ham 1-3 Arsenal - 5 Things We Learned

5. Gervinho is Still a Work in Progress

Gervinho has been a man on fire in recent weeks after being deployed as a central striker in the 4-3-3 formation, but his movement today on the field was often disappointing and bordering on the amateur. One of the most egregious attacking errors came after Arsenal were on the counterattack, and Gervinho timed his run through the defense in the most untimely fashion, which resulted in an offside call rather than an opportunity on goal. It was almost as if he didn't know where he was supposed to be. He wandered between two defenders before making a run for the flanks, but the execution was nothing but terrible. He has yet two win me over in an Arsenal shirt, and I think Theo Walcott has a better shout at flourishing as a striker than Gervinho. Gervinho needs to learn to spend less time on the ball, and learn how to time his runs to perfection.
