Let's set one thing straight. No one seriously expects England to win the World Cup. The trophy-laden (at club level) Golden Generation of English football failed to produce anything more than quarter-final exits, and now that they are winding down, nothing more than the same again can be expected. However, Terry was integral to both Roberto Di Matteo's Champions League-winning and Rafa Benitez's Europa League-winning sides, despite missing the final through suspension. Such were his final-whistle antics in Munich, he probably feels like he was playing anyway. Over the past 14 years, he has won three league titles, five FA Cups, and two League Cups. Those are experiences that would serve England well in Brazil. While they are unlikely to win the tournament, they should still go in looking to win every game, and John Terry knows how to win games. Not many in the current England set-up have that same experience, certainly not in the defence, which is a key area in any tournament. Just ask Greece, who won Euro 2004 based almost entirely on the most solid of back lines. Chelsea would surely not have been quite the same outfit over the last decade without their captain.
