World Cup 2014 Draw: 5 Teams England Could Face In A Worst Case Scenario

3. Italy

Moving away from any South American threat and back to Europe, former World champions Italy are next in our line up. If England are moved to Pot two, they would face the threat of playing sides from the Pot four they vacated, meaning that Italy could be potential opponents. The Azzurri were the side that knocked England out on the way to the Final of Euro 2012, where they were handsomely beaten by Spain, and despite only knocking England out on penalties, you would have to fancy them over Roy Hodgson's side at next year's group stage. Cesare Prandelli's side topped their group with a huge six point gap between themselves and Denmark, and remained unbeaten throughout the campaign. With the rise of Mario Balotelli, Stephan El Shaarawy and Giuseppe Rossi up front for the side, the Italians have revitalised their ageing attack, a problem that persisted in their lack of goals in Euro 2012, with just six scored in their route to the Final. Prandelli has hinted that he could be leaving his post when the tournament in Brazil next year comes to an end, and he will be trying to ensure that his side give the best possible account of themselves. Even Francesco Totti, who has long since retired from the national team is in line for a call up, with his national coach claiming he is watching the 37-year-old closely. Whatever happens, England will face a tougher team than the one they encountered in Ukraine last year, and one that will be ready to take on the world in a bid to reclaim the trophy they won in 2006.
