World Cup 2014: Scenarios For All 9 UEFA Qualifying Groups

Group C - Austria, Faroe Islands, Germany, Kazakhstan, Republic of Ireland, Sweden

Much like Group B, Group C is a three-team race for the runner-up position. They all tail a dominant German squad who would be perfect, if it weren't for a ridiculous 4 goal comeback by Sweden. Finishing up the table are bottom feeders Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands. Though not officially eliminated yet, it is safe to write them off at this point. Team Played W D L GF GA GD Pts Germany 6 5 1 0 22 7 15 16 Austria 5 2 2 1 13 4 9 8 Sweden 4 2 2 0 8 5 3 8 Republic of Ireland 5 2 2 1 9 10 -1 8 Kazakhstan 6 0 1 5 2 15 -13 1 Faroe Islands 4 0 0 4 2 15 -13 0 Germany controls its own fate and can afford a slip-up or two. They have one match left against the Faroe Islands and face each of the 8-point teams for the remainder of their fixtures. That's 19 points with home games against Ireland and Austria whom they defeated 6-1 and 2-1 respectively on the road. Between the next three, Austria only has one match remaining against the bottom feeders (at the Faroe Islands) whereas Sweden and Ireland have two matches against each one remaining. Sweden does have the extra game in hand, but the deciding match for second place looks as though it will take place on September 6th in Dublin where Ireland will host Sweden.
