World Cup 2014: Scenarios For All 9 UEFA Qualifying Groups

Group D - Andorra, Estonia, Hungary, Netherlands, Romania, and Turkey

Much like the previous three groups, there is one team in control: the Netherlands. The Dutch have won every single fixture, only allowing two goals while they've scored 20. They are on a similar run to the last qualification where they won every match en route to the championship match against Spain. Team Played W D L GF GA GD Pts Netherlands 6 6 0 0 20 2 18 18 Hungary 6 3 2 1 13 8 5 11 Romania 6 3 1 2 10 10 0 10 Turkey 6 2 1 3 7 7 0 7 Estonia 6 2 0 4 3 9 -6 6 Andorra 6 0 0 6 0 17 -17 0 Unlike other groups, there is only onebad apple in this bunch: Andorra. Futility is their middle name as they have played 111 matches (friendlies, qualifiers, and tournaments) and have only won three times. Estonia can also be counted out as their only goals scored were against Andorra, 0-1 and 2-0. Assuming that the dominant Dutch run the table and Estonia & Andorra keep showing their ineptitude, this leaves two matches between the three remaining teams with Hungary, Romania, and Turkey having 17, 16, and 13 points respectively. Fortunately for Romania, they host both Turkey and Hungary in these instances. Considering that Romania defeated Turkey and drew against Hungary for the away matches, they have the best chance to advance to the UEFA Play-Off round. The upcoming September 6th bout between Romania and Hungary will undoubtedly mold the group in the fight for second place.
